Write Right Online Into Fictional Series -- by Harley Garrett

To create, develop and write expanses of fiction in e-publishing, the writing of a series is a viable option.  Where to consider serialization treatment of either a complete draft or story outline is dependent on particular components. The components for consideration as to whether it is possible that a given fictional work can sustain or flourish through multiple installments include those elements of storyline duration, plot or plotting potential, character development, amount of conflict, resolution factors, as well as conclusive components. From my overall experience as a progressive, as well as productive author, of what I portray as writing viably towards creating, developing and writing stories that will evolve into series is to elaborate upon the process, along with its subjective advantages, in a descriptive manner.

Subjectiveness is to veil over my elaboration on a concept that works for me, and, even greater, towards how I write. It begins with conception on an outline, progresses to sections as scenes, and evolves into a standalone story amid an overreaching storyline.

Conception, for me, is about conceiving a significant storyline. Significance implies that the storyline contain adequate substance to span, at a minimum, three stories, with no maximum. The outline for this concept is practical, workable and minimal in its composition. An outline of formality on an academic basis, while hugely substantial, is not, in this instance, feasible, due to the demands, along with needs, of establishing progression submissions and motivational productivity. A practical and progressionary outline’s content includes series title; sub titles to serve as story titles, each, along with a descriptive sentence that succinctly acts as a narrative that describes the particular story; then tag phrases, which denote those scenes or sections within that story; and tag words, in either simple, though audibly legible, phrases or sentences, to provide details for content, main or sub plots, characters and characterization, conflicts, climaxes, resolutions and conclusions.

Organization is paramount to the practical outline. As this outline was additionally referred to earlier as being progressionary, it is now appropriate that such reference be brought in to the concept. Organizing the outline’s series title, sub titles, descriptive sentences, tag phrases, and tag words in absolute chronological order lays out a plot, along with all those elements in progression to actually write this story, as an installment towards its series. During the conceptual and creative process for development of an entire series outline, think of each story as on one of its episodes. For each episode, in its overriding sequence to an overreaching storyline of the series, regard and compose it through progressive scenes. Scenes, like in a play, are portrayed. By writing in portrayal, writers are able to write more descriptively, as opposed to narratives, which, of course, will result in an increasingly enhanced read. What enables a writer to instill an increase to the element of description and relevantly vivid detail within this writing concept is expansiveness. In writing a storyline by series format, the writer can write at an increase of expanse that allows its story to act out in word, rather than be told though written narrative.

Conceiving a storyline that can be defined in multiple stories that each present an entire story is the ultimate objective for this concept of serialization. For writers that seek to establish a brand, realize steady online publication of their fictional works, present progression, and demonstrate productivity, the writing of stories in series may be a productive option to consider. A novel or novella must be completed in its entirety for publication, which, of course, takes a considerable duration of time to complete, edit and submit. On the other hand, stories that are applicable towards constituting a series can be written and edited in a much briefer amount of time, as well as submitted for publication one story at a time. Therefore, by way of this subjective concept, and, in choosing  suitable overreaching story lines, novellas, novels and even epic novels can be written, as well as published, through installments. If a writer by vocation, fledgling status or even career, pursues this abbreviated path towards frequent publishing in works of fiction, then success is in their skill and talent to craft each story as a standalone installment contribution towards its expansive storyline’s theme.
