Composition teachers throughout the English-speaking world have been pushing this book on their students since it was first published in 1957. Co-author White later revised it, and it remains the most compact and lucid handbook we have for matters of basic principles of composition, grammar, word usage and misusage, and writing style.

I keep it next to my keyboard. It should be on every writer's bookshelf.

I'm with Joan. No one should be without Strunk & White. I review it yearly, and use it often. It's a classic because it's so valuable and such a great reference for everyday use.

Highly recommended as a writer's necessity!

This is my bible. If you can only afford one book on writing, this is the one you want to have. This book, which is just under one hundred pages, is packed with excellent advice on how to write clean, elegant prose. Example on utilize vs. use (prefer use) - Dosn't the sentence I used the toilet. make perfect sense, instead of the mealy mouthed I utilized the facilities.?
